Did you know ol’ Suschu almost made the OLYMPICS when she was a young’un? The way I like to remember it (because it happened to me like this in high-school) was that when Susi was a youth only six Berliners at a time were allowed to compete for olympic qualification. Though she was 6th fastest of all her peers, her coach (an avid competitor in her own right), was the mother to the 7th fastest swimmer on the team. Though it was completely unprecedented, that year swimmers #1-5 and #7 were invited to compete for qualification, leaving Susi on the moist bench. ”Did something like that actually happen to her?” Asks my wife Meagan, knitting by the fire. “No idea,” I answer, but she’s a hell of a swimmer. Ask her yourself.

Hi y’all
Here is a blog for my Mom who some of you know already got nailed by the super bad big C …..Pancreas/Liver/Lung Embolisms, 3-6 months life expectancy)
You can read, look at pictures, little movies, post comments or pictures yourselves, say howdy, put in your two cents worth, whatever. You will get some updates about how she is doing as well. Right now she is hanging in there ok, though not much stamina.
I have a complaint, though. In the nature of these blogs most recent entries are put at the top (makes sense) but then when you open the blog the next time the most recent entries have been relegated to the bottom. Therefore, after reading the introductory stuff from the top of the blog the first time you go here, the next time you look you might want to start reading from the bottom on up. Maybe I’ll figure out how to do this differently, but for now, start below and climb. Or just read it all. Who am I, yer motha?

Mom is an excellent artist, I think. She has travelled all over the globe and collected vast amounts of ethnic art materials as well as vintage, antique and ancient glass and metal beads and pendants, then designed and assembled them into one of a kind necklaces, bracelets and earrings with that great folk art look that is so IN right now. The cheaper versions, such as at Chico are made from extruded plastics, no little old Indian or Chinese or Indonesian grandpa sitting there under a tree and widdling away at a stone or hammering on a piece of silver some 100,200,300+ years ago.
Mom asks that you all consider visiting her website, and shop, shop, shop til you drop! Tell your friends, acquaintances and neighbors as well, shout it from the roof tops.

There are also tons of very fine antique ethnic textiles, and sculptures, all handmade of course many moons ago when Time was worthless. Some of the pieces are museum quality art works, many treasures, great for Christmas presents, some very inexpensive too and under Internet prices when it comes to much of the contents.
There are also samples of her work for sale at Portland Museum Gift Shop. In fact if they are out of my stuff keep asking them to get more. A plug for them: we think this is the most marvellous gift shop in town in general

By now you may have heard that our mom and your amiga, Susanne Schumann, went in to Portland’s Good Samaritan for shortness of breath tests a couple three weeks ago. When she barely made it to the the front desk she turned right and went to the Er, they admit her right way and find: Pulminary embolisms. Why? Tumors in the liver and a big old thing in the Pancreas. Pancreatic cancer. Motherfucker.
This explains a change in mom’s increasing discomfort over the last couple of years. The recent breathless sluggishness of our normally rampaging heffer, probably from the lung-clots, and less of an appetite, which really should have been the burning gun. If you know Susi, you know that she, once a war child, not only licks the plate but sometimes eats it.
This is the update I’m sorry to give you. Mom is a winner more than a whiner. She’s all about living. When the time comes, so be it. FOR NOW, LIVE IN THE MOMENT, SEND YOUR WISHES AND LOVE, STAY IN TOUCH!
